the pink cadillac

today i was going to go to new york, but decided that i'd rather go tomorrow instead, which is when most others are going to go. my friends and i plan to attend the mermaid parade, and there wasn't really a good reason for me to leave on a thursday. woops!

instead, my day started when my roommate sam called me to deliver his forgotten keys to the place he works. after that, i headed to south philly in search of bell's bike shop to visit my tiny pal and former roommate aileen. it turns out that 1320 e passyunk avenue isn't at 13th and something, but after some unnecessary biking (but since when is healthy exercise unnecessary?), i arrived. i ate a rita's black cherry gelati and considered buying some fancy new wheels and tires for my bike, which i currently have a hard time shutting up about. her name's daphne. i haven't straddled anything as pretty as her before.

anyway, a few days ago while walking to the 40th street stop on the el, i saw THE PINK CADILLAC.

the pink cadillac was parked outside of a church on 40th, silently but proudly displaying two eagles logo stickers. it looks like an old cadillac my grandfather had, but more fabulous. it also reminds me of those ugly hats that they make for sports teams. isn't it weird how they sell sports merchandise in any color now and just slap the logo on in its standard colors? anyway, so while i was out, i saw it driving down washington ave. imagine my surprise! i didn't get a look at the driver, but i hope it's an elderly black gentleman in a suit listening to smooth jazz. oh, how i miss working at the salvation army!

speaking of salvation, how neat would it be for me to build a tall bike? if you answered "plenty," you're on your shit. i realize i need to enlist the help of reverend harding for moral support, but i don't think it'll be hard to convince him. if everything goes according to plan, omar will be riding it in no time.

you don't get that kind of daily triumph unless you're me.

tablets rule

i got my tablet this afternoon, and after several hours of tinkering with blogger templates for work, i had a chance to use it for evil. here is the result:

as you can see, it's not all about the tablet, but it didn't look like that yesterday. you know what they say about using the right tools for the job? totally true. i also started on something else, since i've been meaning to seriously get myself back into drawing all year. i have no excuse not to now that i have a computer's worth of color to use with something other than a trackpad and/or mouse.

this isn't one of them, but i've been remembering my dreams a lot more lately. i plan to pilfer some of the more interesting wrong versions of the real world.

summer projects

it's the summer and i just graduated college...so now what? i'm between school and career, and suddenly have all the free time in the world (theoretically. at least until my paycheck job kicks in again, filling the growing void in my checking account.).

SUMMER PROJECTS!

for my own benefit of listing, and to quench overwhelming public interest, here is a list of projects i have begun or will undertake sometime this summer:

• GETTING A JOB AND STARTING A CAREER
• building a fixed-gear bike -- done, now dolling it up with extras, possibly including...
• bike gps system! since i got gps on my exceptionally disappointing, i've found knowing where i am in the world at all times an indispensable piece of information. make has an article about some fella who converted an old pocket pc into a bike-mounted gps system. if the software doesn't exist to do turn-by-turn directions, building the damn thing and programming it would not only make me really awesome, but it would be good to have. let's hope i don't crash it into anything.
• dramatically increasing my video/animation output. now that i don't have those foolish classes i decided to take last semester (biology? what was i thinking??) eating my time and stressing me out, i need to do what i like again.
• the news, a day late, by puppets. i'm not sure where this one's going to go, and i don't want to spoil the whole idea before i start doing it, but i've always wanted to make puppets, and i'm going to use the shit out of the...
• green screen. i anticipate this being a wall in pilam. i mainly want it to exist so i can remake this video over and over and over and over again whenever i'm not practicing my track stand* or looking at apartment listings and gently weeping.
• speaking of pilam, the fast-talking, gun-toting spotter and i decided that this is the summer of science. while we're not sure what that means exactly, it'll likely involve a lot of awesome shows that i make flyers for using my soon-to-arrive...
• graphics tablet. freelance illustration, here i come.
• but before i go there, i realize that i haven't actually spent too much time outside of the philadelphia area. to remedy that, it's travel time. dc, nyc, boston, chicago...MAYBE EVEN TO THE WEST?

readers, i need your help

i foresee a time within the next decade of my life in which i will be doing the following:

living from hotel to hotel wearing only fine suits and socializing exclusively with strangers and making sure in my interactions with them to only give them fake or useless information if they want to stay in touch with me.

for this to work, i'll need those suits, a very, very nice convertible, a large wad of cash, and a bottomless credit card. after the initial investment, i'm sure i'd be able to manage sustaining myself beyond it financially, at least for a while.
